2026-27 SEASON OVERVIEW
Across four compelling programs, Musica Viva NY's 2026-27 season traces a vibrant arc through celebration and lament to final ecstasy. We begin by uniting rising talents from Teatro Real of Madrid's Crescendo program and the Metropolitan Opera's Lindeman Young Artist Development Program for an evening showcasing opera’s most promising emerging singers. LUMINOSITY pairs the shimmering soundworlds of Eric Whitacre and Arvo Pärt with James Whitbourn's transcendent title work and the world premiere of Richard Einhorn's The Radiant, a Musica Viva NY commission for choir and taiko drum ensemble. THE SACRED VEIL explores the transition from life to death through works by Gilda Lyons, John Williams, and John Tavener before culminating in Whitacre's monumental meditation on loss and enduring love. The season closes with THE RIVER OF LIFE, where George Crumb's haunting hymn settings for vocal soloists and an astonishing array of percussion give way to the visceral, intoxicating energy of Orff's Catulli Carmina.
